2021 World Archery Championships: India finishes campaign with best-ever performance

Indian finished their 2021 World Archery Championships campaign at Yankton, South Dakota, United States with a total of three medals, matching their best-ever medal count from the previous edition held in 2019.

On the final day of the championships, Ankita Bhakat, India’s lone quarterfinalist in the recurve individual, lost to fifth-seeded American Casey Kaufhold by 2-6.

All three of India’s medals were won by Compound Archers with Jyoti Surekha Vennam being involved in each of them. Jyoti bagged a silver in women’s individual events. The trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar claimed silver in women’s team events. The duo of Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam also managed to secure a bronze in the mixed team event.

India had won 3 medals — 1 silver and 2 bronze in the previous edition held in 2019. India has now the most medals (11) in the world championships without claiming gold.
