Indian athletes won 5 medals on day 6. However, there were also some disappointments as the hope of some of the strong medal contenders were dashed. Here’s a look at the results of the Indian contingent:

Weightlifting: India won 2 bronze medals on the final day of the Weightlifting competition. India topped the medal table in Weightlifting with a total of 10 medals including 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals. England took the second spot with 5 medals including 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Lovepreet Singh clinched bronze in men’s 109kg category with a total lift of 355kg (163kg+192kg).

Gurdeep Singh took bronze with a total lift of 390kg (167kg+223kg) in men’s +109kg.

Purnima Pandey finished 6th in the women’s +87kg category with a total lift of 228kg (103kg+125kg).

Judo: Tulika Mann claimed silver in the women’s +78kg category.

Deepak Deswal was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the men’s +100kg category after winning his first-round bout. He then lost in the repechage his ending his medal hopes.

Squash: Saurav Ghosal won the first-ever singles medal for India in squash at the Commonwealth Games.

35-year-old Ghosal defeated James Willstrop of England 3-0 (11-6, 11-1, 11-4)  to win bronze in men’s singles.

India has won 1 gold and 2 silver medals in squash in the earlier editions of the Commonwealth Games but those came in doubles events.

Doubles competitions in squash also began on Wednesday. The mixed doubles pair of Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Sandhu defeated Sri Lanka’s Yeheni Kuruppu/Ravindu Laksiri 2-1 in the round of 32. The other Indian pairs received a bye in the round of 32.

Athletics: Tejaswin took bronze in the men’s high jump after clearing a height of 2.22m.

Manpreet Kaur finished 12th with the best throw of 15.59m.

Boxing: It was a mixed day for India in the boxing ring. Nitu Ghangas, Nikhat Zareen and Husammudin Mohammed confirmed the medal while Lovlina Borgohain and Ashish Kumar bowed out.

Nitu Ghangas outclassed Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland in the women’s 48kg category.

Hussamuddin Mohammed defeated Namibia’s Tryagain Ndevelo by a 4-1 split verdict to reach the semifinals of the men’s 57kg category.

Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen assured their medal as she defeated Wales’ Helen Jones by a unanimous decision (5-0) in the women’s 50kg category quarterfinals.

 Lawn Bowls: Indian lawn bowlers were in action in four events.

In men’s singles, Mridul Borgohain defeated Chris Locke of Falkland Islands 21-5 and Iain McLean of Scotland 21-9. He has 2 wins and 1 loss in 3 group matches. Borgohain will take on Ross Davis of Jersey in a must-win match on Thursday.

Indian men’s fours team defeated Cook Islands 21-10 and then lost 11-20 to  England. They finished 2nd in their group and qualified for the quarterfinals.

The women’s pairs team also reached the quarterfinals. The duo of Lovely Choubey and Nayanmoni Saikia defeated Niue 23-6 and then played a 16-16 against South Africa. They edged out South Africa on points difference to finish 2nd in the group.

However, the Women’s triples team was eliminated due to an inferior point difference. The Indian trio lost 11-24 and then beat Niue 28-7. They finished the group stage with 2 wins and 1 loss.

Table Tennis: Para table tennis competitions got underway on Wednesday.

Tokyo Paralympics Bhavana Patel won both of her group matches and booked her ticket for the semi-finals in women’s singles C3–5. In the same category, Sonal Patel also gained a victory in both of her matches and stormed into the semi-finals. Both para paddlers still have one group match left.

In men’s singles C3–5, Raj Alagar won his first group match but lost the next match. He will play his final group match on Thursday which will be a do-or-die for him.

Suhana Ravi lost both of her matches in women’s singles C6–10 and was eliminated.

Hockey: Indian women’s team booked their tickets for the semifinals. The Indian women defeated the Canadian women 3-2 in their final group match to confirm a top two finish in Pool A.

The men’s team registered an 8-0 victory over Canada in their third group match. The Indian team moved to the top of Pool B with 7 points and a goal difference of +19 in 3 matches.

Cricket: Indian women’s team qualified for the semifinals by finishing 2nd in Group A. The Indian eves defeated Barbados by 100 runs in their final group match.

Put into bat first, India posted 162-4 in their allotted 20 overs. Shafali Verma 43 (26), Jemimah Rodrigues 56* (46) and Deepti Sharma 34* (28) we’re the key contributors. After which, Renuka Thakur ran through the opposition’s top-order with her brilliant spell of 4-0-10-4. Barbados could manage just 62-8 in 20 overs.

Swimming: Advait Page (15:32.36) and Kushagra Rawat (15:42.67) finished 7th & 8th respectively in the men’s 1500m freestyle final.
