Indian campaign in singles competitions ended at French Open after Ankita Raina’s loss in her 2nd round qualifiers. Her defeat came just a day after her first-ever French Open qualifiers win. She had suffered defeats in the first round qualifiers in the last two years.
Ankita faced Japan’s 22nd seed, Kurumi Nara, in the second round and lost in straight set exits. Though Ankita won 2 breaks points, she conceded 9 to Nara and the Japanese capitalized on it. Ankita also made 23 unforced errors in the match while her opponent made only 13. The match lasted for 1 hour and 21 minutes with Ankita losing 3-6, 2-6.
Earlier in Men’s singles, both Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal lost in the first round while Prajnesh Gunneswaran made an exit in the 2nd round of the qualifiers.
