Asian Archery Championships: Jyoti wins gold; Indian compound archers clinch four medals

Compound Archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam clinched gold in the women’s individual at the ongoing Asian Archery Championships 2021 on Thursday in Dhaka.

The 25-year-old Indian defeated top seed and former world champion Oh Yoohyun of South Korea by 146-145 in the final.

Meanwhile, in the men’s individual, Abhishek Verma had to settle for silver after losing to Kim Jongho of South Korea. The Korean won 149-147.

Abhishek had defeated compatriot Mohit by 147-146 in the semifinal. Mohit failed to make a podium finish after losing his bronze-medal playoff to Sergey Khristich of Kazakhstan by 145-148.

Earlier in the day, the Indian compound mixed team of Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha Vennam settled for silver. The Indian pair lost to the Korean pair of Kim Yunhee and Choi Yonghee by 154-155.

Indian computer archers ended their competition with four medals. The compound men’s team of Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rishabh Yadav had won a bronze earlier in the competition.
