Asian TT Championships: Sutirtha progresses; Manav-Archana lose in the quarterfinals

Sutirtha Mukherjee progressed to the next round while India’s challenge in mixed doubles ended at the ITTF-ATTU Asian Championship currently underway in Lusail Sports Arena, Doha, Qatar.

Sutirtha Mukherjee started her singles campaign with a dominant victory. World No.97 Sutirtha defeated 527th ranked Ali Maha 3-0 ( 11-4, 11-3, 11-4 ) in her round of 128 clash.

Indian paddler ousted her Qatari opponent within 11 minutes and booked her place in the round of 64. Tomorrow, she will face 18-year-old Batmunkh Bolor-Erdene of Mongolia for a place in the round of 32.

The pair of Manav Vikash Thakkar Archana Kamath went down to Ho Kwan Kit and Lee Ho Ching of Hong Kong in their quarter-final tie. Earlier in the day, the Indian pair defeated Kazakh duo of Kirill Gerassimiinko and Anastassya Lavrova 3-2 (11-4, 11-13, 9-11, 11-6, 11-4 ) in a nail-biting match and qualified for the quarters.

However, in the quarters, they were ousted by their opponents. The Indian duo went down 1-3 (8-11, 4-11, 11-9, 3-11). With their exit, India’s challenge in mixed doubles comes to an end.
