Badminton Asia Mixed Team C’ship: India Settle For Bronze

India ended their campaign with a bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2023 in Dubai on Saturday. The Indian team went down to China by 2-3 in the semifinals.

HS Prannoy looked lackluster as he succumbed to a 13-21, 15-21 defeat against Lei Lan Xi. The Indian contingent suffered a huge blow as double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu lost her match. Sindhu was defeated 9-21, 21-16, 18-21.

The men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila pulled one back for India as they beat He Ji Ting and Zhou Hai Dong. The Indians won in two close sets 21-19, 21-19.

The women’s doubles duo of Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly kept India’s hopes alive winning a thriller. The young pair won against Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning 21-18, 13-21, 21-19.

India’s challenge ended in the 5th match of a tie after the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto lost in straight sets. They were defeated by Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin 17-21, 13-21.

China will take on South Korea in the gold medal match tomorrow. South Korea defeated Thailand 3-1 in the other semifinal.
