Davis Cup – India vs Finland: Disappointing day for India

India lost both of their matches on the first day of the Round 1 tie. The first two rubbers were played by Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Ramkumar Ramanathan.

Prajnesh (World No. 165) was up against World no. 419 Otto Virtanen in the first rubber. Though playing against the lowest-ranked player, Prajnesh disappointed everyone with a straight-set loss.

Throughout the match, Otto conceded only 2 breakpoints whereas Prajnesh failed to convert both of them. Prajnesh lost the first set 3-6 and then 2nd in the tie-breaker 6(1)-7.

Ramkumar (World No.187) faced World No. 74 Emil Ruusuvuori in the 2nd rubber. Ramkumar played well, converting 2 out of 3 breakpoints but failed to defend break points on his serve conceding 4 out of the 8 points. Those errors led him to lose the match by 4-6, 5-7.

India is now trailing 0-2 against Finland after day 1. Now it’s up to the doubles pair to push this tie forward. Bopanna/Divij pair will start the play today which will be followed by the singles matches.

Today’s schedule:

– Bopanna/Divij vs Harri Heliovaara/Henri Kontinen

– Prajnesh(165) vs Emil Ruusuvuori(74)

– Ramkumar(187) vs Otto Virtanen(419)
