Indian shuttlers continued their great run at the ongoing Deaflympics 2021 current underway in Caxias do Sul, Brazil as they bagged 3 more medals which included 2 gold medals.
Jerlin Jayaratchagan, who had previously won gold in the badminton team event, clinched the yellow medal in women’s singles.
The 18-year-old defeated Austria’s K Neudolt in the final 21-17, 21-18. She had earlier beaten Malaysia’s Wei Ying Boon 21-16, 21-12 in the semifinal of the event.
Jerlin later combined with Abhinav Sharma to secure a gold medal in the mixed doubles. The Indian pair outclassed Malaysia’s Boon and Edmond Teo in the final 21-14, 21-7. The Indian duo had defeated Taiwan’s Chung I -Cheng and Jung-Yu Fan 21-18, 21-16 in the semifinal.
Abhinav Sharma had also claimed a bronze medal in men’s singles with a comfortable 21-16, 21-6 victory over Lithuania’s Ignas Reznikas in the bronze medal match play-off. Abhinav was defeated by South Korea’s Meyongsoo Seo 10-21, 11-21 in the semifinals.
These 3 medals take India’s medal tally at the Deaflympics 2021 to 10, which includes 7 gold and 3 bronze.
