Disappointing start for India in shooting as Elavenil, Apurvi crash out

Indian got off to a disappointing start at the Tokyo Olympics as Elavenil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandra failed to qualify for the final of the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event at the Asaka Shooting Range on Saturday.

Elavenil finished 16th with a total score of 626.5 while Apurvi was 36th with a score of 621.9 in the qualification round.

Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway set an Olympic record with a score of 420.7 to finish on top in the qualification round.

India’s biggest medal Hope’s Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma will be in action in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol event later in the day.
