Hosts India went down against World No.2 Australia in their 1st match of the 3rd round of the FIH Pro Hockey League at Kalinga Stadium on Friday.
Australia dominated the 1st half and score once each in both the quarters. Dylan Wotherspoon gave Australia the lead in the sixth minute before Tom Wickham doubled the lead in the 18th minute. No more goals were scored in the 1st half.
India started 2nd quarter on the front foot. Rajkumar Pal scored a goal from rebound of drag flick by reverse flick to pull one goal back. Australia then got two goals in span of two minutes. Lachlan Sharp and Jacob Anderson scored in the 41st and 42nd minute to put Australia 4-1 ahead at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Rajkumar Pal scored his second of the night in the 46th minute before Rupinder Pal Singh converted a penalty corner to make it 3-4. India pressed forward but Australia managed to hold on to their nerves to secure 3 points.
Australia have now moved to 3rd position in the points table with 9 points in 5 matches while India are ranked 4th with 8 points in as many games.
