Ankita Raina advanced to the second round of the French Open women’s singles qualifying event, while Prajnesh Gunneswaran made an exit in the second round of men’s singles qualifying event.
India’s top-ranked women’s singles player Ankita Raina prevailed against Jovana Jovic of Serbia 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a match that ended in two hours and 47 minutes. The 27-year-old will face Japan’s Kurumi Nara next.
However, it was disappointment for Prajnesh Gunneswaran as he bowled out after losing to Aleksandar Vukic of Australia in the second round of men’s singles qualifiers. Gunneswaran went down fighting against Vukic 4-6, 6-7.
With Prajnesh Gunneswaran’s exit, India’s campaign in men’s singles competition also ended. Earlier, Sumit Nagal and Ramkumar Ramanathan were knocked out, losing their respective first-round matches.
