The Indian mixed relay team bagged silver on day 2 of the 2022 U20 Athletics World Championships currently underway in Cali, United States. The quartet of Rupal Chaudhary, Kapil, Priya Mohan and Bharath Sridhar set up a new Asian Junior record in the process.
The Indian quartet clocked 3:17.76 to take the silver medal in the 4*400 mixed relay, finishing 0.07s behind gold medal winners in the USA. Jamaica took bronze with a timing of 3:19.98. India upgraded the bronze it won last year in Nairobi where powerhouses the like USA, Jamaica, and Great Britain didn’t participate.
Earlier, in the heats, the India team clocked 3:19.62 on day 1 of the competition to finish 2nd overall and qualify for the final. This was better than their last year’s bronze medal-winning effort of 3:20.60, which was also an Asian Junior Record.
Meanwhile, in the women’s 400m event, both Rupal Chaudhary and Priya Mohan qualified for the semi-final. Rupal clocked 52.50 to win heat 2 while Priya was 2nd in heat 5 with a timing of 52.56. Both finished 2nd & 4th overall.
