In a rare incident Indian Football Association General Secretary Joydeep Mukherjee has tendered his resignation to president Ajit Banerjee, Chairman Subrata Dutta and Treasurer Krishendu Banerjee. However Joydeep has stated he will continue in his duties in the organization of the Hero I-League which would start in two weeks. Joydeep Mukherjee in his role was very active and played a crucial role in convincing AIFF to host the Hero I-League qualifiers in Kolkata.
“I feel that I have not been able to discharge my duties successfully as the secretary of the IFA, and thus it is best to leave. The I-League this season is a huge responsibility for the IFA and I thought it wise to stay on till then,” he said.
The issue took place after the semifinals of Kanyashree cup beteween East Bengal and Police FC, which East Bengal won on penalties. But it was found that East Bengal fielded a 3rd other state player, a maximum of two was allowed. Later it was found out that East Bengal register a outstation player with the help IFA president Ajit Banerjee. Ajit an executive member of East Bengal is also in charge of East Bengal womens team. Joydeep who wanted East Bengal womens team to be suspended had clashes with the president Ajit who wanted a rematch of the semifinal. On saturday the rematch was played with East Bengal again winning on penalties. The final is set to take place at the YBK stadium on December 30 which would be telecasted Live on 1sports on December 30.
