India assured of a first-ever medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships

India secured its first-ever medal at the Asia Mixed Team Badminton Championships after entering the semifinals of the 2023 Badminton Asia mixed team championships cure underway in Dubai. The Indians defeated Hong Kong 3-2 in the quarterfinals on Friday.

India got off to a poor start as the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Bhatnagar went down in straight sets. Tanisha/Ishaan lost 24-26, 17-21 to Lee Chun Hei Reginald & NG Tsz Yau.

Lakshya Sen fought valiantly but couldn’t overcome NG Ka Long Angus as he lost 22-20, 19-21, and 18-21.

The makeshift men’s doubles duo of Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila brought India back as they defeated Tang Chun Man & Yeung Shing Choi 20-22, 21-16, and 21-11.

PV Sindhu made it 2-2 as she won against Saloni Mehta 16-21, 21-7, 21-9.

The young women’s doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly outclassed NG Wing Yung & NG Tsz Yau 21-13, 21-12 to seal the tie for India.

The current edition is the third edition of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, which was first held in 2017. India’s previous best was a quarterfinal appearance in 2017.
