Indian men enter finals of Asian squash Team Championship

The Indian men’s team booked a final berth at the 20th Asian squash Team Championship currently underway in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The top-seeded Indian men’s team beat 3rd seeded Hong Kong 2-0 in the semifinal. Ramit Tandon gave India a 1-0 lead with a Henry Leung 4-11 11-5 11-8 11-5.

Then the experienced Saurav Ghosal defeated Yip Tsz Fung 10-12 11-6 11-6 15-13 to give India give an unassailable lead in the best of three tie. Hence, the third match involving Mahesh Mangaonkar was not required.

The Indian men will take on hosts Malaysia in the final. India is yet to win a gold in the men’s competition at the continental event.

However, it was a disappointment for the 3rd seed Indian women’s team as they lost to top-seeds Hong Kong by 1-2 in their semifinal and had to settle for a bronze.

Veteran Joshna Chinappa won her match against Liu Tsz Ling by 9-11, 11-5,11-7,11-5. But her teammates Sunayna Kuruvilla and Urwashi Joshi lost against Ho Tze Lok and Tong Tsz Wing, respectively. Kuruvilla took the 1st set but conceded the next three while Joshi lost in straight sets.
