ISSF Junior World C’ship: 14-year-old Naamya, world record-breaker Aishwary win gold

India bagged 2 more gold medals at the ISSF Junior World Championships currently underway in Lima, Peru.

14-year-old Naamya Kapoor won India’s first gold on Monday as age claimed top honours in the women’s 25m air pistol final. Naamya shot 36 and finished ahead of Camille Jedrzejewski of France, who scored 33 and secure a silver. Manu Bhaker took the bronze in the same event with a score of 31. Rhythm Sangwan was 4th with a score of 27.

Later in the day, Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar added another yellow medal to the Indian kitty as he broke the junior world record in the final to win gold. Aishwary scored 463.4 to win gold and finished 7.9 ahead of Lucas Bernard Denis Kryzs of France, who took silver with 456.5. Gavin Raymond took bronze with 446.6. Aishwary had earlier topped the qualifying round with a score of 1185 and in the process, he also equalled the junior world record.

India currently stands on top of the medal tally with 17 medals including 8 gold medals followed by the United States who have 12 medals including 4 gold medals.
