Neeraj Chopra rewrites national record in his first tournament since Tokyo Olympics

Neeraj Chopra rewrote a new National Record after registering a throw of 89.30 metres at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on Tuesday.
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist started with a throw of 86.92m and then improved to 89.30m in the next throw to break his own National Record of 88.07m which he had created in March 2021. Neeraj fouled the next three throws and finished with an 85.35m throw.
Neeraj’s best effort helped him secure a silver as he fell 0.63m short of Oliver Helander from the host nation. The Finnish claimed the top spot with a personal best effort of 89.93m. This year’s World leader Anderson Peters finished 3rd with the best effort of 86.30m.
Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland’s top track and field competition in summer. It is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold-level event.
