Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra set a new national record on his return to Diamond League at Stolkholm on Thursday. The 24-year-old registered a throw of 89.94m to finish second in the competition. He bettered the previous national record of 89.30m, which was set by him in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku earlier this month.
Neeraj started with a gigantic throw of 89.94m to rewrite the national record and also a new meet record, which was later broken by Anderson Peters who also won the competition. The Indian star recorded throws of 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m, 85.03m and 86.67m in his next five attempts.
2019 World Championships gold medalist Anderson Peters of Grenada emerged as the winner by creating a new meet record with a throw of 90.31m. Germany’s Julian Weber (89.08m) claimed third sport while Tokyo silver medalist Jakub Vadlejch (88.59m) was fourth. Thus, the top four throwers in the competition.
