Rezona Mallick breaks U16 national record by a huge margin

West Bengal’s Rezona Mallick Heena shattered girls’ U16 400m national record during the 4th National Open 400m Championships in Trivandrum, Kerala on Monday.

Mallick took gold in the girls’ U16 event clocking 53.22s. to bag gold. Her timing was better than the winners of senior, U20 and U18 events. The girl’s U18 winner Khushi Sadana Umesh clocked 56.18s while the girl’s U20 winner Priya Mohan registered a timing of 53.55s. The senior event winner Dandi Jyothika Sri managed a timing of 53.26s.

Mallick finished more than three seconds ahead of Mansi Bharekar, who took silver with a timing of 56.77s. Nethra M (57.66s) clinched bronze.

The previous U16 girl’s national record was held by Anjana Thamke who had clocked 54.57s in October 2012. The West Bengal runner alak holds the U-16 national record in the girls’ 300m race. She had clocked 38.57 seconds in November 2022 to erase previous national record of 40.11.
