Rupal Chaudhary qualified for the final of the women’s 400m race at the U20 Athletics World Championships currently underway in Cali, United States.
The Indian clocked her personal best of 52.27s to finish first in the semifinals heat 2 and 2nd overall. Her previous best was 52.48, which came earlier this year.
However, it was a disappointment for Priya Mohan who missed out on the final qualification. Priya was 5th in semifinals heat 1 and 10th overall.
Earlier in the competition, Rupal and Priya had helped India clinch silver in the mixed 4*400m relay. The quartet of Rupal Chaudhary, Kapil, Priya Mohan and Bharath Sridhar set up a new Asian Junior record of 3:17.76 to take the silver medal, finishing 0.07s behind gold medal winners in the USA. Jamaica took bronze with a timing of 3:19.98. India upgraded the bronze it won last year in Nairobi where powerhouses the like USA, Jamaica, and Great Britain didn’t participate.
