His gold medal-winning throw of 86.48m is still a record in the competition. In the previous edition, Hima Das had won the yellow medal in the women’s 400m with the timing of 51.46s making her the first-ever track athlete from India to win gold in any IAAF tournament. The other 2 medals have been bronze which were won by Seema Punia in 2002 and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon in 2014. Both these medals came in the women’s discus throw.
