Veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal surpassed compatriot Sathiyan Gnanasekaran to become the highest-ranked Indian player in the latest senior men’s singles rankings while young rising paddler Manav Thakkar regained no.1 spot in U21 Men’s Singles rankings in the latest ranking release by International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) on Thursday.
Sharath kamal, who won Oman Open last month jumped 7 places to move up to no.31 in Men’s Singles rankings while Sathiyan Gnanasekaran dropped 1 place to no.32 spot.
Harmeet Desai (72) & Anthony Amalraj (100) are the other Indian paddlers who occupy spots in the top 100. The Indian Men’s team has taken a leap of four spots to reach no.8 spot in the World team rankings.
In Women’s Singles rankings, Manika Batra(63) & Sutirtha Mukherjee(95) have positioned themselves in top10. Suthirtha has entered top100 for the first time in her career having moved 65 places up in 2 months.
Rising young paddler Manav Thakkar has regained no.1 spot in the Men’s u21 Singles rankings while Jeet Chandra jumped 9 places up to break into top 10. He is placed at the 9th position.
Archana Kamath dropped out of the top10 in Women’s u21 Singles rankings. She moved 3 places down to no.11. Selena Selvakumar(18) & Moumita Dutta(24) are the other two Indian girls placed in top25.
The ITTF rankings will now be frozen until the start of events. ITTF has already suspended all its events until June 30 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
