Shreyas Iyer becomes the 2nd Indian player to hit 3 successive half-centuries in bilateral T20I series

Shreyas Iyer played some match-winning knocks during the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka. With Virat Kohli being rested, Iyer came at number 3 and did a superb job to help India win matches.

In the opening match at Lucknow, the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan had a brilliant start putting on 111 runs laying strong foundation for a massive total. Shreyas Iyer struggled initially with his timing before launching assault against the Lankan bowlers. From being 19 runs off 15 balls, Iyer upped the ante and scored unbeaten 57 off 28 balls to help India post 199 for 2 in 20 overs. It was a brilliant batting display by Iyer hitting big shots making life tough for the Lankan bowlers. The Sri Lankan batters struggled and lost the match by 62 runs.

Shreyas Iyer performed brilliantly in the 2nd T20I match also. Chasing 184 runs to win, India lost two quick wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan cheaply. Shreyas Iyer made the batting look easy taking on the Lankan bowlers especially Praveen Jayawickrama. He then displayed great hitting abilities against the pacers and kept the scoreboard ticking. Iyer completed his fifty in quick time. He along with Sanju Samson steadied putting on 84 runs for the 3rd wicket. Shreyas Iyer scored unbeaten 74 off 44 balls with 6 boundaries and 4 sixes. His knock helped India chase down this total with ease.

The Indian team won the match easily by 7 wickets with 17 balls to spare. For his unbeaten 74 off 44 balls, Shreyas Iyer was awarded the man of the match.

Shreyas Iyer again displayed great skills and cricketing brain in the 3rd T20I match played at Dharamshala on 27th Feb. Chasing down 147 runs to win, India lost an early wicket of Rohit Sharma cheaply. Shreyas Iyer kept his brilliant form timing the ball brilliantly.

Iyer looked in great touch keeping the scoreboard ticking and hitting boundaries. He never looked hurried with his strokes and remained not out on 73 off 45 balls with 9 boundaries and 1 six. His knock helped India chase down this target with 19 balls to spare.

Shreyas Iyer performed brilliantly in the entire series. For his brilliant knock, Shreyas Iyer was awarded the man of the match. He scored 204 runs in 3 matches without being dismissed.

The Indian team performed as a unit. With no experienced player, Shreyas Iyer took the responblity and took the team to finishing lines during the 2nd and 3rd T20I matches while chasing.

Apart from Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli was at his absolute best during the T20I series against Australia in 2016. He scored 90* in the first T20I match at Adelaide Oval, followed by 59 not out at Melbourne Cricket Ground and then ended the series with fifty at Sydney Cricket Ground. He scored 199 runs from 3 matches.

Shreyas Iyer took the charge and kept India on course with his aggressive batting. He would be looking to perform regularly during the upcoming IPL 2022 as he has been appointed the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders.
