SMAT 2021: Vishnu Solanki’s last-ball six helps Baroda reach semis

Vishnu Solanki’s magnificent innings (71* off 46 balls) helped Baroda recah the Semi Finals of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021.

Put into bat first Haryana started poorly and were reduced to 25-2. Himanshu Rana and Shivam Chauhan steadied Harayana’s innjngs . They stiched together a 80-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Himanshu scored 49 (40) and Haryana managed to put 147 runs on the board. Karthik Kakade took a couple of wickets while Babashafi Pathan and Atit Seth got one wicket each.

In reply, Baroda openers got a decent start but Sumit Kumar dismissed Smit Patel in the final over of powerplay to bring Haryana back. Then Baroda skipper Kedar Devdhar and Vishnu Solanki started to score runs at a healthy runrate and were taking the game away . But Haryana again made a comeback. This time Indian international Yuzvendra Chahal broke the 63-run partnership and it looked like they were going to edge past Baroda. Baroda were at sheer pressure and they need to get 18 runs in the final. Some brilliant death over bowling from Arun Chaprana, who conceded just 5 runs in the 16th and then 6 in the 18th over, followed by a 5-run over from Mohit Sharma in the 19th over meant Baroda needed 18 off the last 6 balls. Sumit Kumar gave only 3 runs in the first 3 balls but Vishnu Solanki had other plans he scored 15 in last 3 balls with a six, four and another six to help his team cross the line.

Brief Score:

Haryana 148-7 in 20 overs (Himanshu Rana 49(40); Karthik Kakade 2-0-7-2)

Baroda 150-2 in 20 overs (Vishnu Solanki 71*(46) ; Yuzvendra Chahal 4-1-15-1)
