Swiss Open: Sindhu, Srikanth enter semis; Sai Praneeth loses in quarters

It was mixed day for Indian contingent at Swiss Open on Friday. PV Sindhu entered the semifinals while B Sai Praneeth got knocked out of the tournament after losing his quarterfinals.

Reigning World Champion PV Sindhu entered the women’s singles semifinals as the the
World No. 7 defeated Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 23-21 in the quarterfinals.

Former champion Kidambi Srikanth also advanced to the semifinals after an impressive victory over sixth seed Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand by 21-19, 21-15.

World Championship bronze medalist B. Sai Praneeth lost 14-21, 17-21 against Malaysia’s Zii Jia Lee in men’s singles quarterfinals. Veteran
Ajay Jayaram was outclassed by Kunlavut Vitidsarn 9-21, 6-21.

Second seed Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty came from a set behind to defeat fifth seeds Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi of Malaysia 12-21 21-19 21-12 in the men’s doubles semifinals.

Earlier, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and his mixed doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa bowed out of the tournament losing 17-21 21-16 8-21 to fifth seeds Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing of Malaysia in quarterfinals.
