Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021: All-round Krunal Pandya stars for Baroda; Karnataka defeat J&K

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament kicked off on Sunday with eight matches being played simultaneously in the morning session.

Here are all the results from Day 1 morning session of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021:

Karnataka won by 43 runs

Debutant KL Srijith’s unbeaten 48 off 31 propelled Karnataka to 150 for 5 after the defending champions were struggling at 73 for 4 in 11.2 overs. Jammu & Kashmir could manage only 107, falling 43 runs short. Prasidh Krishna picked 3 wickets while Mithun, Suchith and Gowtham took 2 wickets each.

Railways won by 6 wickets

Milind Kumar (61* off 40) top-scored for Tripura as they set a target of 171 for Railways. Railways chased down the target in 19.3 overs losing 4 wickets. Opener Mrunal Devdhar scored an unbeaten 61 off 50 while skipper Karn Sharma struck 45 off 29. All-rounder Harsh Tyagi smashed an unbeaten 38 off 17 to take his team home. Sankar Paul took 3 wickets for Tripura.

Punjab won by 11 runs

In a low scoring contest, Punjab defeated Uttar Pradesh by 11 runs. Prabhsimran Singh top-scored for Punjab, accumulating 43 runs off 41 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets for 22. Collective bowling effort helped Punjab defend the small total. Suresh Raina scored an unbeaten 56 runs from 50 balls for Uttar Pradesh.

Bengal won by 9 wickets

Bengal bowled out Odhisha for 113. Odisha were reduced to 30-5 and then Rajesh Dhuper (37 off 37) and Ankit Yadav (32 off 39) helped Odhisa cross the 100-run mark. Ishan Porel took 4 wickets for 26 while Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar picked up two wickets each. In reply, Bengal chased down the total in just 12.2 overs. Opener Vivek Singh struck an unbeaten 54 off 35 balls.

Tamil Nadu won by 66 runs

Hari Nishaanth’s unbeaten 92 off 64 and Dinesh Karthik’s cameo of 46 from 17. Chasing a mammoth target, Jharkhand were never in the game as they couldn’t get any momentum in their innings and they ended up at 123 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Gujarat won by 29 runs

Arzan Nagwaswalla took a 6-fer as Gujarat restricted Maharashtra to 128, defending a total of 157. Earlier, five Gujarat batsmen crossed 20 but none of them could score more than 30 as Gujarat made 157-8 in their 20 overs.

Baroda won by 5 runs

Skipper Krunal Pandya’s all-round performance helped Baroda edge out Uttarakhand. Krunal struck 76 off 42 to take his team to a total of 168. He added 89 runs for the fourth wicket with wicketkeeper Smit Patel, who scored 41 off 30. Uttarakhand was reduced to 67 for 5 in 11.1 overs with Krunal picking two wickets. Dikshanshu Negi (77* off 57) and Kunal Chandela (48 off 26) put together a brilliant partnership off 79 runs in 7.4 overs to keep Uttarkhand in the match but their effort was not good enough to help their team cross the line.

Himachal Pradesh won by 32 runs

Put in to bat first, Himachal Pradesh finished at 173 for 5. Opener Ravi Thakur was the top scorer with 53 off 36. Amandeep Khare(87* off 60) fought a lone battle as Chattisgarh could score only 141 for 8 in their 20 overs. Rishi Dhawan took 3 wickets conceding 29 runs.
