UWW Rankings:12 Indian Wrestlers occupy a spot in top10

Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia and Vinesh Phogat are the highest ranked India wrestlers placed at no.2 in their respective categories.

12 Indian wrestlers occupied spots in the top ten among the 30 weight categories in the recently updated United World Wrestling rankings. These rankings were updated after their performance in the recently concluded Ranking series events in the month of January.

In Men’s freestyle wrestling, star Wrestler Bajrang Punia and World Championship Silver medalist Deepak Punia are both ranked 2nd in 65kg and 86kg weight category respectively. Ravi Dahiya grabbed the 4th and the 10th spot in the 57kg and 61kg weight category respectively. Ravi, the bronze medalist of 57kg category had won gold in 61kg category at the Rome Ranking series event.Rahul Aware, another Bronze medalist from the 2019 World Championship has occupied the 3rd spot in 61kgs while Jitender Tripathi(7th in 79kg) and Parveen(8th in 92kg) are the other Men’s freestyle wrestlers placed in top10.

India’s top female wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who finished on top of the podium in the Rome Ranking series event has retained her no.2 spot in the 53kg category while Anshu Malik, Pooja Dhanda and Komal Gole are ranked 9th ,6th and 10th spot in 57 kg, 59kg and 72kg weight category respectively.

On the other hand, Greco-roman wrestlers Gurpreet Singh and Kumar Sunil have also retained their 10th spot in 82kg and 87kg respectively. Gurpreet had bagged a gold in the Rome Ranking series event while Kumar Sunil had to settle for a Silver.
