Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s century brings the first points for Maharashtra.
Having opted to bat first, Maharashtra had a strong start as openers Rutraj Gaikwad and Yash Nahar put up a 101-run partnership before the latter was dismissed by Ayush Jamwal on 52(63). Skipper Ruturaj scored his 7th List A ton and was dismissed at 102 (109) by Rishi Dhawan. Contributions from Bawne and Azam Kazi helped Maharashtra to put up a 295-8 on the board. Vaibhav Arora was the pick of the bowlers as he took a 4 for including a hattrick while Rishi Dhawan and Ayush Jamwal picked up a couple of wickets each.
In reply, Himachal Pradesh lost their opener, Prashant Chopra, in the second over. Maharashtra bowlers showed their discipline and took wickets at regular intervals, bowling Himachal out for 236. Half-centuries from skipper Anustup Majumder and youngster Kaif Ahmad along with quality bowling performance ensured that Bengal gets off to a winning start in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by beating Services by 70 runs today at Eden Gardens.
Put to bat first Bengal posted 315/6 in their quota of overs and while defending they bundled Services for 245.
Bengal openers Vivek Singh (39) and Sreevats Goswami (28) showed patience and stitched a 71-run partnership before Pulkit Narang gave Services the breakthrough by removing the Bengal keeper and the latter one was run out after one ball.
After that Bengal skipper, Anustup showed his class with the bat once again with a half-century and Abhimanyu Easwaran gave him company to add 92 runs for the third wicket.
