We know we’re playing against one of the giants of Indian football, says RoundGlass Punjab FC Head Coach Curtis Fleming

(RGPFC Media) Ahead of its Hero I-League game against Kolkata giant Mohammedan Sporting on Super Sunday, RoundGlass Punjab FC (RGPFC) Head Coach Curtis Fleming said on Saturday that the team has learnt from its mistakes and is looking forward to playing against the opposition.

In a pre-match press conference, Fleming said, “We learn from history, we move on, we try to prove ourselves as a club and look ahead to the next game.”

Kolkata’s iconic football club Mohammedan Sporting is still unbeaten in the I-League so far, but RGPFC defender Aakash Sangwan said, “You can’t predict the results of a game by a team’s previous performances. We’re learning each day and making improvements. I believe in my team and I believe we can turn things around.”

Fleming showed his respect for Mohammedan Sporting as he said, “They are a club with around 130 years experience and we’re just a fresh entity. They have a rich history and we know we’re playing against one of the giants.” He added, “They have a big budget and an experienced squad. But we know we will be competitive and are looking forward to the game. We know it will be a difficult battle.”

The Head Coach reiterated what he’s said before, “It’s a game like every other game in the Hero I-League, you need to go and win it. As I said before, it’s not a marathon but a sprint.”

Talking about the title challenge, Fleming said, “The challenge is for everybody. When you start the season as a coach, as a club, there are all sorts of plans and pathways, but I’ve said from Day 1 that we want to build our foundation in the first season. We then need to evaluate where we stand and how we can make our club the strongest in the future. For us, it’s not just about these three months. We have young guys—out of 26 players, 14 are U-22. They are only going to learn from game time. So, our challenge every day is to make our players better and more organized.

As far as the title challenge is concerned, I’m looking at every game as a challenge.”
The Head Coach informed that the Club has suffered some injuries and it is doubtful that Bikash Yumnam, Sumeet Passi, and Anwar Ali will play in the game against Mohammedan Sporting, but a decision on their availability will be taken on match day.

The match between RoundGlass Punjab FC and Mohammedan Sporting will be played at the Kalyani Stadium near Kolkata at 7 pm on Sunday.
