World Athletics U20 Championships: Amit Khatri wins India’s second medal at the event

Amit Khatri won India’s second medal at the 2021 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi, Kenya

Amit clocked 42:17.94 to earn himself a silver medal behind Kenya’s Heristone Wanyonyi who won gold with a timing of 42:10.84. Paul McGrath of Spain took bronze 42:26.11.

This is India’s second medal at the ongoing World Athletics U20 Championships and for the first time, India has won more than one medal in any edition of the championships. The mixed 4*400m relays had bagged a bronze on Wednesday. The other Indians to win a medal at the other World U20 Championships are- Seema Antil (bronze in women’s discus throw, 2002), Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (bronze in women’s discus throw, 2014), Neeraj Chopra (gold in men’s javelin throw, 2016) and Hima Das (gold in women’s 400m, 2018).

In men’s javelin throw, Kunwer Ajai Raj Singh Rana and Jai Kumar missed out on a medal on Friday. Ajai finished 5th with an attempt of 73.68m while Jai Kumar was 6th with an attempt of 70.74m.
