United World Wrestling (UWW) has announced that it will host the Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia from 12 to 20 December, while the Junior World Championship has been called-off.
70% of the participating countries have ensured their participation in the 2020 Senior World Championships. Therefore, the UWW agreed on to schedule the event in Belgrade.
“We are cautiously optimistic about the return of wrestling in December,” said United World Wrestling president Nenad Elvalovic. “The safety of our athletes, coaches, and staff is our top priority and we will take every measure to ensure the incidents in Belgrade.”
The final date for sending entries is 5 November and the UWW Executive Committee will meet again on 6 November 2020 to discuss the number of entries received and the current status of the Covid-19 epidemic worldwide, where they will also make a final verdict on whether to go on with the event or cancel it, depending upon the situation of Covid-19 across the world.
